You must create an atmosphere of comfort and safety in your classroom. If teachers in the past have made students fearful, then you will have to be "extra nurturing" to get them to the "safe writing place." It is important to focus on the PROCESS and ACT of writing, rather than the "spelling it correctly" in the beginning. That kilss creativity and makes children fearful.
